Coming home

October 27th, 2007 by Mariam

I am so thrilled to be home…

I have missed this city so much… where I was born and raised… where I have lived most of my life.  Beauty surrounds me everywhere I look!  The mountains, the ocean, the crisp autumn air, the colourful leaves… I love it when I am walking and the sun is beaming down through the now yellow leaves… the leaves become almost brilliant… this city holds so many memories for me…  I can’t emphasize enough how good it is to be here again.

I am so happy to see friends and most especially to be with my mom and dad and family again…  How I have missed them all… seeing their sparkling, joyful eyes…

Today is all the more special because it is the official CD release concert for In the Light, my new album.  We have had a flurry of activity this week, everything from interviews with CBC, to rehearsals with my amazing band, to spending time with family and friends.  And now, it is Saturday, and our show is tonight.

I woke up this morning excited and nervous…

I can’t wait to share this music with everyone this evening…

What an amazing show last night, Mariam! Your voice is so beautiful - it touches my soul - and your band was so great… there was such a great energy in the air… we bought your CD and listened to it all the way home! Can’t wait for your next show. Thank you!!

    Dear Mariam,

One minute I’m relaxing in a coffee shop with you discussing babies and God, the next my jaw is open with a nonstop smile of pleasure, seeing you on stage — so accomplished, so comfortable, singing your songs with an increasingly rich voice. Wow.

I love watching “your” guys (the band) playing their stuff — Elliot is amazing, whatever he plays! I especially enjoyed seeing/hearing Jesse Zubot play beside you — he just seems to sort of sidle up alongside your voice, sometimes in harmony, sometimes in playful dissonance — beautiful.

Your whole presentation is so much more sophisticated — which amazes me, because your music is often so simple in its origins, simple folksongs, yet their are now more and more layers to your music. How you do this and and at the same time increase your vulnerability on stage — so lovely.

    Thank you!!

    Hello Mariam

Your sister, Sarah, introduced me to your music and last week my son and I very much enjoyed your concert. It was apparent that you love to sing and you do it so beautifully. Also, my sincere compliments go to your percussionist! Good luck with your CD and with your new family life.

Beautiful performance at UBC! We loved your music and your voice. You sing so clearly and effortlessly. I bought your CD so that I could play music for my students at WPGA (they find it relaxing to listen to music while in art class). Love it! Big thanks to your sister, Sarah, who invited us.

Hi Mariam! Wow, your concert was absolutely enchanting. The combination of your clear, beautiful voice with the catchy, unique rhythms and instruments was lovely. Wished it didn’t have to end…I will definately be at your next concert! Love you!
