It is Good Friday today.
Appropriately, there were thunderstorms this morning… the sky was dark as opposed to the brilliant sunshine we have had these past couple of days.
Growing up, Good Friday was always marked with a downpour of rain and that always seemed fitting.
I am thinking about the shame my Saviour suffered for me. For us. I am humbled by His mercy. I know that my understanding of what He endured is so very limited. Oh, but I am so thankful for this overwhelming sacrifice of Love.
I am remembering one of the most beautiful services in the Armenian church… on Thursday evening, we have a service called Khavaroom… or Darkness… there are candles lit, one for each of the apostles, and one for Christ. And at the end of the service, as the priest sings, one by one, each candle is blown out, as each apostle leaves the Lord’s side… leaving Him utterly alone… the lone candle that represents Him remains, flickering in the darkness of the sanctuary…
