Some of our best conversations always seem to happen while I am driving…
“Mama, when I grow up, I want to have a covered wagon. Not a car,” My Littlest Lady announces.
“Okay, that would be fun,” I tell her.
“I mean I am going to live on a farm in the mountains, you know, so I want a covered wagon. They are so much more useful than a car…”
She says she doesn’t like the city too much, this free spirit of mine who loves Laura Ingalls currently.
“But what about a horse?” My Little Lady reminds her younger sister. “You don’t have a horse.”
“I could get one.”
“But you don’t know how to ride a horse or anything…” My eldest Lady would prefer to live in a castle, with a house in the mountains for weekends…
Littlest Lady is processing. She perks up. “Well, I could learn and my husband would know all about horses!”
And then, Little Man, who has been listening intently to all this talk by his older sisters, pipes up, “And I will be your husband!!”
I am laughing. How will they resolve this one?
“Oh, buddy, I wish you could…but sisters can’t marry their brothers…” She tells him gently.
It is Little Man’s turn to process now…he thinks for a split second and then pipes up again, “Well, then, I will be your big brother!”
And that takes care of that.
